Stepping out of your comfort zone

Romans 12: 2

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

I was reading a daily devotional and came across the verse above.  It is so amazing that you can read a verse several times but don’t think about it too much.  Then a couple years later you are sitting down all cozy on the couch, reading your bible and a verse jumps out from the page at you.  I love these moments.  Bible verses have such deep meanings at every stage and circumstance in life.

I have struggled with thinking too much about what others think of me for way too long.  It is really a very immature thought.  I need to grow up and move on.  I always try to keep people happy and run away from “drama” as fast as I can.  But you know what, “do not be conformed to this world.”   This grouping of words hit me right on the head!   I constantly am anxious about what others will think of me or what others might say about me.  This is being conformed to the world.  I need to live for God and let Him conform me to the person He wants me to become.

I love the phrase, “but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”  We should be continually learning and challenging ourselves to grow in our spiritual walk.  Learning doesn’t have to mean getting more education, but it could if God has that in His plans for you.  It could mean quitting your job, traveling or even becoming a parent.  All that matters is that you are pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.

By pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone, “you may prove what the will of God is.”  It can open up windows of opportunities in your life.  You might even get the inclination of God’s purpose for your life.  You don’t know what God has in store for you until you try and do something about it.  If you sit at home dreaming about the things God will do in your life, life will just pass you on by and you will live a life of regret.

Lastly, everything God does, “is good and acceptable and perfect.” You can’t go wrong with God in you life.  He always does things according to His plan and purpose and it is all good.  Like He said when He created this world, “it is good,”  everything He creates in our life will be “good,” if we let Him in and let our walls down.

I know this can be a scary process.  We don’t know what will happen or where we will end up.  We may get ridiculed or people may “talk” about us.  But in the end no comment or someone’s opinion will matter.  The only thing that will matter is God and His purpose for your life.

Right now, starting this blog is scary.  I am letting everyone into my life.  I feel vulnerable.  But I have this inclination that this is going to help me grow and challenge myself into someone God wants me to be.  Even if no one ever reads my blogs, I know this is a direction God wants me to go.  Maybe it is too sharpen my writing skills.  It might make me read and study my Bible more so I can grow spiritually.   Maybe it will be to influence other young girls around me.  I don’t know what God has in store for all of this, but at least I am trying and stepping out of my comfort zone.

Why don’t you let the world stop controlling you and step outside of your comfort zone?  What will God have in store for you?
